Louis Armstrong Major Accomplishments

Louis Daniel Armstrong, or as others more commonly call him, Satchmo the Great. Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901. However, he told people he was born on July 4th, 1900 to sound even cooler. He was raised by his mother, Mayann, and lived in a poor small apartment in New Orleans with her and his sister, Beatrice. Growing up, his mother often went to dances. Louis and his sister would often peek through the door to watch everyone dance, so he practically grew up listening to the Blues almost everyday. Because his family was so poor, he found jobs here and there to help out his mother with the bills such as selling coal door to door as a salesman. At age 11, he dropped out of school and got into some trouble. On New Year's Day, he fired a pistol into the streets. He was arrested and taken to the New Orleans Colored Waif’s Home for Boys. There he was taught how to read music and play some different instruments. As he tried several different instruments, he knew he had found the one when he excelled in playing the cornet. I don’t enjoy jazz music that much but his talents outweigh the fact that I would stop listening to him. I used to play the cornet just like he did and he was very impressive to me when I would listen to some of his music. In my opinion, he was not overrated at all. He had lots of natural born talent. Unlike most famous people, he didn’t start playing basketball at the age 5, or first start singing when he was 4 years old. He started his career at the age of 11, and this was only due to the fact that he had gotten into some trouble. This would explain why he became so popular so quickly because he was a natural.
