I have special segments in my show. My magic performance is a mixture of family entertainment. But I have a segment I set up especially for kids. I use “Fishy Business” (a multi silk routine) to share a story. I perform the magic as I tell the story and it ends with a very strong good stranger/bad stranger message.

I have another segment where I use three silks: red, white and blue to make the flag. I tell a story as I work the magic and end up with a salute to our veterans. I usually have them stand and receive a round of applause. The entire sequence ends with the phrase “America will always be the land of the free, because it is also the home of the brave”.

I have just finished working up a routine for our cherished seniors. Karaoke was another one of my hobbies. I enjoy it and have done well in competition. The song I am always asked to do is “Wonderful World” in the style of Louis Armstrong. That is the karaoke part of this article.

The square/square is the same as what we know as a square circle prop. But all elements: outer shell, inner shell and load are square. The unit stands on its own table and the paint/fringe design match my other stage equipment. That is the magic piece of this article.

I set this segment up asking if people remember Louis Armstrong. Some do and the younger ones do not. I offer a quick explanation of his music then go into my routine. I first show both shells as empty. Then I start the music and sing, in my Louis Armstrong voice, as I work through the routine.

    The masterful, classic composition “Potato Head Blues” by legendary musician Louis Armstrong and his Hot Seven band is widely regarded today as one of Armstrong’s finest recordings.
