My name is Louis Acheampong. I am eighteen years old and I attend school at East Hartford. I was born in West Africa, Ghana.
I live with my Mom, Dad and my little brother who just turned seven. My mom has two jobs, and also takes College classes so I try helping her in cooking, and sometimes her homework. My dad is also a delivery worker. They are both my mentors because they inspire me to work as hard as they do.
It’s been about three years since I moved from Ghana to the U.S. Things had been very different for me especially schooling in U.S. I struggled a lot academically because the way the school works back in Ghana is totally different.

I help the children clean up, teach them about God and also teach them new songs. I didn’t even consider it a community service because I felt like it was my job to educate these kids.
I have been given lots of perfect attendance, and any time I had to miss school for a doctor’s appointment I felt upset because I hate to be behind the class. Most of my teachers like me because I am a respectful student and always ready to learn when I step in class.
My hobbies are playing soccer, basketball, cooking and writing.
I have seen a lot of progress in my third year in America and my final year of High School. I have now being doing even better in class because as time went by it taught me a lot. My GPA in my senior year of High School is 3.8 because I have now being able to adapt to how the U.S school system works and I think I could even do more if I am giving the chance to attend this college.
My SAT does not reflect what I am capable of doing because I still struggle taking American standardized tests, but I will find a way to prove that I can achieve in college and beyond.
I am planning to go to college to pursue my dream of becoming a physical therapist, a pharmacist or a child psychologist. I have always wanted to help others and also make different in other people’s
