WHAT IS A MISSIONARY?
A missionary is a person sent on a religious journey, to share their faith with others. They often go to countries where their faith is uncommon or unknown.

Charlotte Diggs (Lottie) Moon is an example of a Christian missionary. She lived in Virginia in the 19th century, and had six siblings. Though she attended the church services her mother held in their home, she was uninterested in church until she was eighteen and her friends invited her to hear about missions at church. She was sceptical, but went because she wanted to be with her friends.

This is because it is usually important to them, and they want to share this with others. They also may believe in a Hell that people who don’t believe in God will go to, and want to ‘save’ people by converting them to Christianity.
This is demonstrated in many Bible verses, including Mark 16:15-16 (‘He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”’), and Psalm 96:2-4 (‘Sing to the LORD; praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.’)
SHOULD CHRISTIANS SHARE THEIR FAITH?
People may be uncomfortable with being told they should convert to a religion, especially if they are already part of a religion, and telling people they must change/join a religion could be seen as rude. They could take the message as being told that Christianity is the most important religion, which people belonging to other religious groups such as Muslims or Jews wouldn’t be pleased
