Lost: Monologue

My monologue is based on the topic of terror and isolation. My inspiration for this text sparked from the TV series ‘Lost’. The extreme emotions portrayed in the series intrigued me and spurred me on to write a piece of my own expressing these themes of terror and isolation. Another inspiration is an experience of my own from when I was younger and ended up lost in a large shopping centre. This was a moment in my life when I myself experienced these extreme, terrifying emotions. My monologue is directly aimed at teenagers as it describes a young teenager’s experience of camping which informs readers of the negative incidents that may occur during camping. The use of Intonation helps to convey the fear in the character’s voice by showing instability caused by her fear. My Intonation fell on the word ‘forget’ (line 13) and expressed wavering of the character’s voice as she is fearful of her situation. In addition to intonation I also used the feature of raised pitch. This fell naturally on words that were being said in a louder pitch, an example being ‘Hanaaaahh’ (line 11).
