The Lost Generation or also known as the post-World War 1 generation were known to be unstable, not too optimistic and realistic. The war was over so what would be next? Games.The name of the generation came from Gertrude Stein to Ernest Hemingway in his novel The Sun Also Rises. The meaning behind lost generation meant that the youth of that time was coming to become mature since all was lost during and after World War 1. Baseball got more popular due to the war being over as men looked for work during these times. Baseball got, even more, recognition because it was the start of its golden age The baseball golden age was because of Babe Ruth a man who built stadiums and had a record of home runs and amazing game baseball skills. Baseball is a game where the person with the bat hits a ball from the pitcher’s throw and they have to make it into the field or even do home-runs which are known to just hit the ball far enough past the stadium field. Otherwise, if the batter hits a weak ball and the opposing team catches the ball then it is an out on the batter at play. The goal of the game is to get as many points by avoiding the opposing team’s catches and going to home base after passing three bases. During the times of the 1920s, there were radios and newspapers which were beneficial to the game becoming even more popular. Since radios and newspapers could be reached from anywhere and were popular. People at home could enjoy listening to the baseball games. Many families would tune in and listen to who is winning and losing with radios. One could argue that during night time people outside could hear the games from outside. Board games are basically tabletop games that are played with the entire family. The American board game industry dominated the 18th century so everyone from that time had a board game or at least the majority. Though during the 1920s there was a board game that was a game played overseas. It was a game called, ‘Mah Jong’. Created by the Chinese it was a game with a goal to collect the decorative fauna designed tiles according to number and type. Whoever ruins the tiles goes “Mah Jong”. There are 144 sets which consist of 36 Bamboo suit tiles, 36 Circle suits, 36 character suits, 16 wind tiles, 12 dragon tiles, and 8 bonus tiles which were 4 Flowers and 4 Seasons. These tiles were crafted from bamboo and ivory sometimes bone and would have very decorative hand painted pictures. This was Mahjong in China but when it came to America by Joseph P. Babcock in the 1920s it became a fad. However, it was not made the same as it were in China. They changed the game to be more simplified and easy to understand. This made marking the board game more successful if it had been complicated it would not have seen success. It got popular fast but later the people got bored with it.
