Greenwald in his Ted Talk tells us this point:” Mass surveillance creates a prison in the mind that is much more subtle though much more effective means of fostering compliance with social norms or with social orthodoxy, much more effective than brute force could ever be” Mr. Greenwald hammers home the problem with surveillance right here. As humans we are afraid of what will happen if express ourselves because we are afraid someone is watching. We then force ourselves to conform to society, therefore living like a puppet of ourselves. If you did not think someone was watching would you act differently? More often than not you would be a different person. It’s like a person among their friends versus their boss. Same person in both situations, yet one is a fake side that is professional, while the other is relaxed, and expressive. If we as a people continue to allow our privacy to be stripped away from us, how will we ever be able to express our selves truly? I hope that in the future we can as a society take back what is rightfully ours, our privacy because without it, we will lose who we truly
