Loss Of Learning

I intend to attend an academic program at UNC Chapel Hill that will help me prepare myself for future college-prep exams and tasks having to deal with college admissions. From this specific experience I know I will take a practice test that will allow me to review and practice the academic skills that I have obtained throughout the past year.

Each year, students are required to read books during the summer, as a means to keep you reading even while school is not in session. The idea of summer reading is a good one, however the execution of this idea is not as good. The way summer reading is set up at Renbrook has its pros and cons. One pro being the book, or two, that the entire grade reads. It’s a good idea to have the whole grade read at least one book in common to spark conversation, especially on the first English class of the school year.…

According to year round school “struggle to remember skills content” the analysis is when students return from summer breaks they struggle to remember skills and content , this evidence supports my argument because it 's true when students return from their summer break they struggle with their learning because they were to busy thinking about other things besides school and their education. School stresses students out because they have other stuff to worry about, they have to worry about homework, essays, and their family issues at home that 's way too much stress on…

Summer Slide While we all agree that children need down time from the rigors of school life during the summer, that isn’t something that parents have to go to great lengths to provide. As teachers we all want students to learn to the best of their ability and retain as much of the information we are teaching them as possible. However, how can we help students learn to the best of their ability if they forget a lot of the content over the summer months? Most students don’t do much over the summer that will help their education. Students spend most of the summer sitting around, playing, or working and a lot of times students leave school at the end of the semester and don’t even glance back at it over the course of the summer. Most of the students who take three months off from school and they are bored by the end of the summer.…

Maximizing Memory “Tips from the Science of Memory---for Studying and for Life” provides information on how to apply the new techniques learned, throughout chapter 6, to improve memory for educational purposes, and life in general (King 235). King discusses the importance of making something important and meaningful in order to secure it in one’s memory. We mull over ideas in the present with our short-term (or working) memory, while we store past events and learned meanings in our long-term (episodic or semantic) memory. In seventh grade, my reading experience went farther downhill. The teacher expected us to do projects reflecting over what we had read every time we finished a book, with a minimum of five per trimester. I hated doing these reflection projects, so my quantity of reading fell further to just five books every three months. However, the final nail in the coffin of my reading came in eighth grade. On the first day of school, the teacher informed us that the only genre we would be allowed to read for out reading logs, which were unnecessarily complicated, was nonfiction.…
