He is very adventurous. His first act of courage is when he touched the Radley House. “Jem threw open the gate ad sped to the side of the house…”(15) The Radley’s are a neighbor of the Finches. Boo who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Radley is never seen by the kids. In the beginning of the book they believe that he is a monster, the Radleys are not always the nicest, or most social. He had courage in this moment because he did something that neither Dill or Scout wanted or would do. The second major act was when the went to get his pants which got caught on the fence in the Radley’s backyard. Jem's pants got caught on the fence because him, Scout, and their friend Dill snuck into the Radley’s backyard. They heard Mr. Radley so they had to leave in a hurry going underneath the fence and his pants got caught. “Jem’s white shirt- tail dipped and bobbed like a small ghost dancing away to escape the coming morning…” (57) Jem had to sneak out at night and get back without Atticus noticing, which would be hard to do. Jem also had the most courage when Mrs. Dubose was “bulling” the kids and he just walked away with his head high. ‘“ Come on Scout,” He whispered. “Don’t pay attention to her, just hold you head high and be a gentleman…”’(101) He had to have lots of courage to tell Scout that and not say anything. Just to walk away and leave it alone. Jem was able to have lots of courage and push through anything that was thrown at …show more content…
My favorite part of her showing courage so far is when she stood up for Walter Cunningham, and talked back to Miss Caroline. “Miss Caroline and I had conferred twice already, and they were looking at me in the innocent assurance that familiarity breeds understanding. I rose graciously on Walter’s behalf…”(20) This just demonstrates how Scout is not afraid to stand up and explain or fight for what’s right. Another example of her acts of courage is when she didn’t fight the boy from school for talking ugly about her father, Atticus. “I drew a bead on him, remembered what Atticus had said, then dropped my fists and walked away.”(76) Scout displayed courage and was able to push through the temptation and not fight the boy. Scout did something which many children would be frightened to do. She went into a somewhat of a stranger’s house with her brother to help a lady, Mrs. Dubose. Jem had to read to her every day for a month for ruining her bushes. Scout was skeptical about going but demonstrated courage and went with him. “It always made me afraid, expectant, watchful. In the corner of the room was a brass bed…” (106) Scout overcame a “fear” she had. She was able to have courage and go with Jem to read to Mrs. Dubose even though she was somewhat

Throughout the book he was mysterious but there were hints were thrown at us about who he truly was. Jem said, “I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time… it’s because he wants to stay inside” (Lee 231 ch. 23). This quote makes me think that Boo Radley stays inside to stay away from all the harm that there is outside. A lot of the town would take advantage of Boo Radley, and they saw him as a bad guy. Not many people attempted to take a walk in his shoes, but if they would have, then they could have come to the same realization the kids did and seen that he was a good and innocent guy.…

Scout later on started to find gifts in the knothole of a tree that was located near the Radley house, later on it’s realized that Boo was the one putting all the gifts in the knothole for Jem and Scout, he wanted to bring joy to them, something that he did not really have and risked being seen to do so. This is also the point where we really see how Boo is really like and how the rumors were not so true. This time he did not just risk getting seen but also getting harmed or killed in order to save the people that he has grown attached…
