He is very adventurous. His first act of courage is when he touched the Radley House. “Jem threw open the gate ad sped to the side of the house…”(15) The Radley’s are a neighbor of the Finches. Boo who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Radley is never seen by the kids. In the beginning of the book they believe that he is a monster, the Radleys are not always the nicest, or most social. He had courage in this moment because he did something that neither Dill or Scout wanted or would do. The second major act was when the went to get his pants which got caught on the fence in the Radley’s backyard. Jem's pants got caught on the fence because him, Scout, and their friend Dill snuck into the Radley’s backyard. They heard Mr. Radley so they had to leave in a hurry going underneath the fence and his pants got caught. “Jem’s white shirt- tail dipped and bobbed like a small ghost dancing away to escape the coming morning…” (57) Jem had to sneak out at night and get back without Atticus noticing, which would be hard to do. I rose graciously on Walter’s behalf…”(20) This just demonstrates how Scout is not afraid to stand up and explain or fight for what’s right. Another example of her acts of courage is when she didn’t fight the boy from school for talking ugly about her father, Atticus. “I drew a bead on him, remembered what Atticus had said, then dropped my fists and walked away.”(76) Scout displayed courage and was able to push through the temptation and not fight the boy. Scout did something which many children would be frightened to do. She went into a somewhat of a stranger’s house with her brother to help a lady, Mrs. Dubose. Jem had to read to her every day for a month for ruining her bushes. Scout was skeptical about going but demonstrated courage and went with him. “It always made me afraid, expectant, watchful. In the corner of the room was a brass bed…” (106) Scout overcame a “fear” she had. She was able to have courage and go with Jem to read to Mrs. Dubose even though she was somewhat
