The overall theme is in reality often times people who have gone through losses are unable to move forward in life. On page 211, in chapter 24, Holden thinks to himself, “I felt something on my forehead, some guy’s hand.” I can infer that the narrator is afraid that his head is being touched due to him being lonely over a period of time. People who have gone through traumatic events can only see the bad in people, therefore they are unable to see the good side because of their loss of innocence. On page 233, in chapter 25, Holden thinks to himself, “I feel so damn happy all of a sudden, the way old Phoebe kept going around and around.” I can infer that the main character loves his sister tremendously because whenever Phoebe is happy which results his world lights up too. People who have gone through loss can easily move forward, while some cannot. On page 234, in chapter 26, Holden thinks to himself, “a lot of people, especially this one psychoanalyst guy they have here, keeps asking me if I'm going to apply myself when I go back to school.” The reader can infer that the main character is questioning himself whether or not he can move on with his life, but it reveals that he was unable to because of his unreliable characteristics throughout the entire novel. Through his thoughts the reader can infer that he repeatedly stuck in between childhood and adulthood. The author purposely crafts the main character in this way to show the time proves everything. Sometimes in life, when people have experienced trauma, some people cannot move forward with their life. Throughout life everyone has losses and grieves but some chooses to move forward. But some choose to stay in their past during their happiest moments in life. When traumatic events happen people tend to become lonely and want their love
