Some would question their faith/religion or others would just even accept the fate. The people in the history department where confused after the damage since they were the only ones who suffered. While pondering a Hebrew, a Babylonian, and an Egyptian man came to assist the History Department. Each of the men had different reasons in which why the English department didn’t suffer any damage. He then went on how God could be testing the faith of the History Department like he did with Jonah and the whale. In his religion, the gods are typically chaotic and unpredictable. They believe in different gods who control different things in the world. For an example if there so happens to be a tsunami the god who controls the sea would be at fault. From Wiesenthal, I learned that while the faith of many were diminished by the horrors during this time; some were still able to hold a strong sense of faith even in the toughest of times. Wiesenthal's friends Josek exemplifies how even in times of such hardships, faith and the message of God could still be found. This can be seen on page 6, on a Sunday evening when Josek begins to tell the story of the creation of man and the four angles of Justice. One of these angles, the angle of truth, upset God and so he was sent away to Earth, later which he would return back to God. Josek goes on by saying, " The angle brought back a cold of earth which was soaked in his tears... and from this cold earth the Lord God created man"(6).…

The book has a psalm within itself to bring a new level of sadness with Jonah being in the whale. Literary aspects put Jonah in theses aspects especially the ones that need to look more deeply into Jonah such as it being possibly an analogy for justice versus mercy and God and his relationship with all people (Trible, 1994, p 484). Jonah being a narrative shows him and God as the main protagonist while everybody else except for the Nineties as minor characters (Trible, 1994, p. 474). There are instances of irony such as Jonah expressing God is the creator of land and sea while he is fleeing from God on the sea (Walton, 2006, p. 476). The plethora of literary details and techniques do not make up for the lack of historical context ,but elevates the story to being what it was intended to be great literature that gives emphasis on the Lord and his…

It is often confused what faith is and what it is not. Indeed it is an abstract term which its definition will change depending on who you ask. Throughout the works of two authors, Faith by Terrence W. Tilley and The Essential Tillich by Paul Tillich, the term faith gets evaluated and explained in a more in depth fashion. Everyone has faith; it does not have to be a religious belief, but in fact it can be a relationship with something, a center of value, or a motive. Faith, to me, is an abstruse concept where the components of belief, hope and morality unite to form a synonymous definition.…
