Loss Of Faith During The Night In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel two characters Eliezer and his father Mr.Wiesel’s faith are constantly getting tested while in the concentration camps that were located all throughout Germany. In these camps over six million Jews were killed. During their times in the concentration camps they lost faith, were brutalized, and got treated like objects. When Eliezer and his father were in the concentration camps they went through horrible and unforgettable moments. During their first night in the concentration camp Eliezer began to reminisce and wonder. Mr.Wiesel and Eliezer began to feel very weak and loss faith many times. When Elie and his father were marching to Czechoslovakia they both wanted to just slow down but, they both knew if they slowed down that they would get shot by the SS Officers. They both just wanted to give up as they seen other Jews slowing down and then, watching them get shot. Eliezer and his father continued the march and arrived to Czechoslovakia finally. The days and nights in the concentration camp were unbearable for the Jews, even the strongest ones. The intolerable moments began to get too hard on Mr.Wiesel. Elie began giving his father the rest of his coffee and rations of his food. Eliezer watched his father have gratitude in his eyes as he was drinking the warm beverages. Elie knew his father was officially losing all his faith. He stayed strong and had faith for so long during the horrible and brutal moments in the concentration camps. But, when it was finally ending for Mr.Wiesel, Eliezer just could not let go. “I can’t go on, my son… Take me back to my bunk”(109). Mr.Wiesel told Eliezer these terrifying words as he walked past him. Elie was beginning to lose his faith as he seen his father dying and also losing faith. Throughout all his moments in the concentration camps he stayed strong for his father. Once Eliezer went back to his bunk to see his father he found him laying there crying. He knew he could no longer carry on and it was his time to go. His faith was officially gone. Mr.Wiesel just wanted all his struggles to go away. “I woke up at dawn on January 29. On my father’s cot there lay another sick person.”(112). At that exact moment Elie knew his father’s faith was all gone and that he had given
