When Johnny killed Bob many of the characters didn’t get over the death (to not repeat the word loss so quickly again)loss, and one of them is Bob’shis mom. When Randy was talking to Ponyboy he was telling Pony how Bob’s mom's spoiled him a lot. Randy also said how she had a nervous breakdown because she was having a hard time coping with her son's death(116).This is an example of character, not asking or sticking with other characters for help. Bob’s mom could have talked to her family or someone, but she chose to grieve all by herself and the result was a nervous breakdown. I read that, Dally and Johnny had this connection and Dally took care of Johnny really well. Johnny’s parents never cared about him and his old man used to hit him. The same was with Dally because Dally’s Dad didn't care where he was(49 and 88).Since Johnny was a big soft spot for Dally, when Johnny dies (148) Dally get emotional and he breaks down and the effect is he robs a grocery store. Dally calls Darry to let him know that he robbed the store and told Darry help him hide from the cops. When all of them(Ponyboy,Darry,Soda etc) get their to hide Dally, Dally waves a gun, but Pony remembers Dally saying in the previous chapter(154) that the gun was unloaded). It was too late because the cops shot him down and he was instantly dead. Pony knew Dally wanted suicide and he got his wish. Dally couldn’t take the death of Johnny and instead of sticking with the group and grieving with them, he grieves by himself and the result of that was getting himself killed. The because of Dally not sticking with the group is him having and extreme breakthrough which caused him to rob a store later killing himself over the grief of Johnny’s death. This connects to the theme because when you don’t stick together after a loss it could bring extreme effects to yourself and an example of that is Dally. All in all the theme of this book when characters overcome
