Hills, California and established in 1947. Pierce college is one of the nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Currently, LAPC serves 22,000 diverse students, which includes over 14,000 full-time equivalent students. The college has a total population of 55% women, and 45% men. The student body demographics consists of 29% White/Caucasian students, 6% Black/African American students, 47% Hispanic/Latino students, 1% international students, and 11% Asian students. LAPC offers numerous student support services for students to succeed and persist in college including, but not limited to, student services, tuition affordability, accessibility, schedule flexibility, location, multiple pursuable degrees/certificates, and transfer opportunities. Anyone can attend Pierce College, such as, returning, undocumented, nontraditional, transfer or traditional students, and Pierce College has the passion and capacity to communicate and serve all students. LAPC offers fifty unique associate degrees and forty-nine certificate programs. The average class size is thirty-six students.

It is important to support incoming students to increase their persistence and retention rates. Consequently, LAPC’s First Year Experience (FYE) department has five unique programs including, Summer Bridge Program, Freshman Academy, Go Days, #PierceSuccess, and Peer to Peer Mentor program, to support new students through the matriculation process and inform them on resources that will aid in their success in college. The Summer Bridge Program consists of an 8 week program where English or Math is coupled with a personal development Counseling 40 “College Success Course” to accelerate their progression in their college development. Freshman Academy is an academic support program that helps First Year students transition into college. Students take a full-time, pre-determined schedule of classes for the Fall and Spring term. Students who participate in the program will have to choose from 2 cohort options which are Business and Social Behavior Science. #PierceSuccess is a one week workshop series where students receive English and math tips, habits of the mind, and a one day college success seminar.
