In ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ by Lorraine Hansberry, dreams serve purpose of believing for a better life that can benefit everyone involved. While the entire screenplay has various prominent visions mentioned, the Youngers eventually strive for not only a realistic goal, but something they rightfully deserve. A few were sacrificed, albeit it took character growth and maturity to realize what was truly important to keep their family united. Nevertheless, getting towards fulfilling this one life-long dream caused several major challenges.

For instance, Walter Lee Younger was a middle aged man who craved being the patriarch of his kin, along with owning a successful liquor store. These two fantasties are actually intertwined. If he was making a good amount of cash with this particular business, in Walter’s eyes, he could become the sole breadwinner for his family. Although Mama gives Walter an opportunity to prove himself, (by handing over money from Big Walter’s life insurance check to control in a bank account), he ends up putting all cash into a botched up deal with two men named Willie and BoBo. Thus, Walter loses every single penny because Willie ran off, which creates multiple problems.

Throughout this book, Beneatha’s main focus is on pursuing a career as a doctor. However, numerous odds are stacked up against her, like being a female and an African American in the fifties. Paying college tuition is incredibly difficult, alas the Youngers were able to gather enough money with three other jobs to afford the schooling. Despite having their late father’s check for a slight financial boost, the additional cash gets squandered due to irresponsible
