Lorenzo De Zavala was born in Tecoh in the state of Yucatan Mexico on October 3, 1788.
Lorenzo was the fifth of nine kids.
His father’s and mother’s names were Anastasio de Zavala y Velázquez and María Bárbara Sáenz y Castro.
Lorenzo graduated from the Tridentine Seminary of San Ildefonso in Mérida in 1807.
He also was put in prison twice because of his political beliefs.
He studied medicine with textbooks enough to practice medicine when he got out of prison.
The place he was imprisoned was the fortress of San Juan de Ulloa in the harbor of Veracruz.
He also learned how to speak english when he was in prison.
His full name is Manuel Lorenzo Justiniano de Zavala y Sáenz
He founded and edited newspapers which expressed his democratic beliefs.
