Introduction L’Oreal is made up of several companies and has branches and other subsidiary companies in the whole world. L’Oreal Company is one of the world’s great producer of cosmetics that specializes in the development and manufacturing of hair care products, skin care, hair color, fragrance for professional and consumer market and color cosmetics. In terms of its number of sales and its presence in the market in the world, L’Oreal is quite a huge corporation (Sinkovics & Ghauri 2009). The L’Oreal Company was formed many years ago by a French chemist, Eugene Schueller in 1907. Together with the science and technology development, the modern scientific and technological achievements in advanced technology mostly apply to the cosmetics industries mostly in the biotechnology, information technology, nanometer and electronic technology, which offer a great development in the cosmetics industry. L’Oreal India has a high capability in research and development. In 2005, the L’Oreal group registered 529 patents, which were related to dermatology and cosmetics. Since the entry of L’Oreal in India there has been invention and modification of several products to suit the consumers in India (Armstrong & Kotler 2005). For instance, been selection of colors that would attract the consumers for color cosmetics. There are five groups of L’Oreal cosmetics. One is the Consumer Product Division which comprises of all brands distributed via the mass market channels, which ensures that L’Oreal products are available to the majority of consumers. The other is the Professional Product group, which offers particular hair care products for application by the professional hair dressers and they are sold exclusively via salons. The department of Active Cosmetics produces and markets products that are distributed selectively via pharmacies and specialists health and beauty shops.
