Originally known as the United Holy Salvation Army and Uganda Christian Army/Movement, the organization morphed into The Lord’s Resistance Army. The Lord`s Resistance Army was also known as The Lord`s Resistance Movement. There are no other aliases that many other names or aliases.
Ideology
The LRA was built by Joseph Kony; he believed that he was a prophet sent from God to cleanse the Ugandan people to create a bastion of peace. His ideology has been classified as Christian because the army claimed to be fighting for the Ten Commandments. Kony believed that the cross that he wore would protect him from bullets and that he had mystical powers. Kony ordered his followers to poach and kill African elephants in the in Garamba national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He asked them to send the tusks to him so that he could sell them to fund the organization. The tusks were sent from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic so that he could trade with Arab businessman. He traded with them for cash, food, guns, ammunition and medical supplies. In addition to the illegal poaching of the elephants, the LRA was also funded by habitual pillaging of rural villages.

It was created by Kony in 1986 in Uganda. He believed that he was restoring honor to his ethnic group, the Acholi people. He also believed that he was appointed by God as a prophet to reinstate his vision of the 10 Commandments. This is where the religious backing foundation of this organization comes from. He also claimed to channel magical powers and spirits to direct him and that God gave him political power. Under his leadership thousands of people were murdered, raped, kidnapped, and experienced horrendous atrocities to themselves and their families. Tens of thousands of children over the years were used as sex slaves and forced into active duty infantry. They needed to recruit children due to the fact that they had such a negative reputation with the public, they weren’t attracting new recruits. His soldiers tortured many people. The organization was able to receive international news around the late 2000 time. There was a Facebook campaign against him as well as other international groups that fought his regime in 2012. Around that time the United States provided more than $560 million in humanitarian assistance specifically benefiting LRA-affected populations in Uganda, CAR, the DRC, and Sudan, in addition to countrywide assistance in the affected countries that could benefit individuals affected by LRA violence.
