There are many books that educate or teach a lesson to the reader but they are usually boring to read. My most favorite book I have read in high school was the Lords of Discipline. It was written to entertain and educate the reader, by using detailed descriptions and having a talent for writing. The lessons that Pat Conroy is trying to teach are very apparent and attention grabbing to the reader. The main lessons of the book are: discipline, brotherhood, and respect. The Lords of Discipline really portray these lessons in a intense way and that is what really made grow attached. It has made a major impact on my life and leaves me with things to think about. William McLean experienced being a part of a brotherhood for the first time once he arrived to the Institute. Being a part of a brotherhood is a great experience and has always kept me going. It makes it tolerable when everyone is suffering together and makes it easier. When everyone is doing it together then I can keep on going even when I feel like I can’t anymore. When one of our brothers are hurt then we are there to comfort him because they would be there for us. It is also fun having a bunch of guys together and just have a good time. Showing respect is one of the best ways to show how someone has matured. Every time that I show respect to someone it just helps me gain more respect and it can build a stronger bond between people. It is one of the many parts of becoming a man and growing up. I have to learn these things because I will be gaining a lot more responsibilities. Next year in college I will have more responsibilities and I will be an adult. Being respectful to the right person could help me get a better letter grade on a report card.
