It is perceived that in order to be good there needs to be a of display high morals. It is also believed by a vast amount of people that to be "evil" is to be bad, but the definition of evil is considered to be of lack of morals. Sauron was at a servant to Morgoth but now is a slave to his ambition. Ambition is good but too much ambition is poison. Many men have died for their own ambition but none more than Boromir. He fell prey to his ambition of using the ring to save his people of Gondor. Although he allowed Sauron to influence him. Sauron influenced and incited many to follow and do his bidding. The main bait that ensnared many was the promise of immortality. It catered to the greed in lesser creatures such as men. Men who fell to the seduction of power generally become Ring-wraiths or naz-gul in black speech. The first Ring-wraiths created were men. The nine mortal men who carried magical rings, made by the swindled Elves of Eregion, deteriorated into the black riders who actively searched for the one ring during the War of the Ring. During this time the Fellowship was desperately attempting to defeat Sauron by leading Frodo to Mount Doom. Is Frodo a good guy though? He did sacrifice a great deal like a finger to “save” Middle earth from Sauron. Is Frodo still a hero? He unknowingly serves the White Council by bringing the Ring to Rivendell. Food is just trying to survive and do what Gandalf asks of him. Because of this Frodo gets sucked into the war between “good” and “evil”. He changed the way an entire country thought much like Sauron did. Sauron lied to many people to get into power as did Hitler but they both figuratively dug year own graves. Hitler had an ideal that their existed an Aryan race one he thought of himself. While Hitler lacked the power to physically create his own race. Sauron had the power to create Orcs. Although Sauron did not create the orcs, Morgoth did to mock the elves, Sauron continued to breed them. Another thing that both Hitler and Sauron had in common that they both used fear and coercion to win wars and gain followers. Overall Sauron is just like the rulers and leaders we have seen throughout history and is not the first in Middle earth lore. He is an over ambitious and over prideful totalitarian ruler who wanted nothing more than to be the “god” of

No one is innately 'good' or 'evil', human nature is much more complex at its core. When the opportunity presents itself, one must decide whether or not to listen to the angel, a symbol of purity and hope, hovering over an individual's right shoulder, or the devious, conspiring devil on the left. However, one can make a bad decision, and remain pure. It is not the act itself that defines an individual as good or evil, it is the feelings that follow it. Therefore,…

“I’ve learned a lot about good and evil and they are not always what they appear to be” (Doren 1).Often in life, the line between good and evil can be easily blurred and the difference between man and monster can be uncertain. Anonymously written, the epic poem of Beowulf expresses many examples of drawing parallels between man and beast, more specifically between heroes and villains. Beowulf was thought to be read as a ballad or as entertainment for guests. Because it is an epic poem, Beowulf is full of heroes, villains, battles, and mystical beings.…

He is not a weak character because of his longings for safety and home, but exactly the opposite; Frodo has strong urges to abandon the burden of the Ring but is able to overcome them. This takes a great deal of strength and Frodo is able to admit these moments to himself, which not only makes him more relatable to the reader but also keeps him aware of his own feelings so that he is not in danger of unknowingly abandoning his commitment and the quest. Writer and translator Ross Smith posits that “...Tolkien wished to get certain messages across, particularly the concept of ‘hope (or faith) without guarantees’, which imbues the quest to destroy the ring, and ‘no victory without sacrifice’, which leads to Frodo’s demise” (49). Frodo sacrifices everything to destroy the Ring and in the end finds himself so broken, physically and mentally, that he departs Middle-earth. Frodo is an example of extreme loyalty because he is willing to give his life to complete a task that he volunteered for; he is the first to join the Fellowship, which is a major part of the story and demonstrates themes of loyalty.…
