The truism many hands make light work applies to this group. When they bought into Ralph’s philosophy that making a fire with smoke could help signal ships that were passing, they all worked toward the common goal of creating a giant fire. However, when the boys were building huts, quite a few of them got distracted and did their own thing. This hampered their progress to make the island more suitable for them.
Loyalty is something that every thriving civilization needs to exist. For example, if there was a citizen in the United States who was spying on the FBI for the benefit of terrorists, they are betraying the United States. In the same way, Jack is acting as the cancer of the group and is trying to overthrow power from Ralph. He is trying to persuade group members to promote him to the leader of the crew. When Jack is unsuccessful, he runs away from the group, and some of the boys follow him. Obviously, Jack was not the only one with divided loyalty.
Numerous things are needed to make a civilization successful. Three major components of civilization include loyalty, teamwork, and solid leadership. All of these components are not present in this group. This is a major problem, and they better get it fixed before they go belly-up as a crew. It is time for them to mature, accept their differences, and work together toward a common goal, the goal of being rescued from the
