The leaders of the Ralph symbolizes civilization because he tries to keep the group civil and together in order to get rescued. For example “If it rains like when we dropped we’ll need shelters all right…” (Golding, p#52) This show him trying to build a civilization to make it seem like everything is normal. For example “Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach...passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands.” (p#56) Unlike the other bigguns Simon cares about the littluns and their safety. Most of the times they just let the littluns run around and not really worried about them. Another example is “Simon...shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy.” (p#74) This shows his kindness towards Piggy and the sacrifice he made giving him some of his own meat. Which shows that he is not as savage as the rest. With Simon being the one that symbolizing good morals there is Jack that symbolizes evil.
Jack, the leader of the hunters, symbolizes evil. For example “Kill the pig, cut her throat, and spill her blood.” (p#69) Innocent little boys would most likely not be chanting that while hunting a pig. This shows the violence and the evil that is growing inside the boys. Another example is “They’re going to hunt you tomorrow” (p#188) This shows the effect the island is having on them to where they want to kill another. Which would prove that humans are born naturally mean and that we are taught to be nice to other people. Jack represents how Golding views how he think humans are

All Simon did was good, the novel never showed Simon as evil. “Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless outstretched hands.” (56). That quote proved Simon was compassionate to all the kids, even the ‘littleuns’. “Simon, sitting between the twins and Piggy, wiped his mouth and shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy.”…

William Golding’s main themes within Lord of the Flies are that of the hopelessness of mankind and of evil as an inborn trait of humanity. He shows these themes by using children unacquainted with experience to exhibit the evil within human nature. His characters and objects chosen to represent society and benignity are overcome by their counterparts. The presence of ‘the beast’ is Golding’s way of depicting the manifestation of inborn savagery within humans. Golding used Lord of the Flies to portray his beliefs of inherent evil in humanity and his lack of hope for mankind.…

“I began to see what people were capable of doing. Anyone who moved through those years without understanding that man produces evil as a bee produces honey, must have been blind or wrong in the head”(biography.com). This quote from William Golding’s life connects with the theme presented in his novel, Lord of the Flies. Most literary works project a theme through literary devices. Left Arm By “shoving his piece of meat” to Piggy, Simon showed the good side of human nature (Golding 74). Despite his good deed, he “lowered his head in shame” because he embarrassed himself in front of the entire group and thus made himself more of an outcast to them (74). Glared by Jack, Simon provoked the inner beast’s “inexpressible frustration” by living by his own morals.…

POWER STRUGGLE IN LORD OF THE FLIES Power is believed to be the only thing stronger than fear. When Lord of the Flies was published in 1954 the novel is considered to be about humans that are inherently evil and when given power, how they choose to use it. Golding demonstrates this through the use of characterization examining Jack and Ralph as individual characters; symbolism is used to illustrate the power in the novel; and lastly, the conflict/dialogue between Ralph, Jack and its effects on the atmosphere. Simon fills this role, his obedience and desire to maintain the peace shining through in all aspects of his personality. It is obvious to the others, but they do not show much respect for the most moral of the group, casually noting “Simon’s always about” (Golding 55). This implies that whenever a hand is needed, Simon is there to help, even if he never gets the recognition he deserves. This is seen later in the book as well, when Simon “shoved his piece of meat over the rocks to Piggy” (Golding 74). In a world where not everyone contributes his share, there is always a need for a person willing to sacrifice more of his or her own quality of life for the good of another.…
