Lord of the Flies Element Essay Michael Simonds Massabesic High School English Mr Estes. Lord of the flies is one of William Golding’s better books. He published this book in 1954. It was written just after the 2nd World War. It tells a story about a group of little boys who were involved in a plane crash and are found on a stranded island. Most of the boys all have different distinct personalities. They are left on the island alone with zero adult supervision. The author uses, and Law and Order, Civilization vs Savagery and the loss of innocence to develop the theme that the kids need to maintain a society to remain civil in this island. We start with Law and order, in society rules are set to be necessary to survive on the island, the rules will create order in society so it’ll create order in the island so the island will remain in order. The rules are mostly laid out at the beginning of the book and they are willing to accept the rules at the beginning of the book. They have a big symbol shown throughout the book of law and order and that is the conch, it represents law and order. When they have meetings the one holding the conch is the one who may speak. All of the rules in the novel mostly gets broken. “Abolish to the rules” Jack says whom at first agreed to all the rules and then denied and didn’t follow the rules. Slowly they begin to go backwards and disobey there rules which brings us to the next topic Civilization vs Savagery. At the beginning of the book the boys behaved rather good and they would act normal and behave how they would, but they slowly start to loose it and they learn not to act normal like they would at home. They start out civilized and then they start to loose it, it is mostly shown and read upon as there clothing and cleanliness.
