Leadership has a profound effect on the ability and vitality of others. The effectiveness of a leader can indicate the success or detriment of any undertaking or endeavor. All nations and factions raleigh upon a leader to maintain order and make rational decisions in a crisis. The person or people elected as leader can be chosen inadvertently simply based upon their actions or the innate qualities they possess. There are various unique qualities that are necessary in order to become an adequate leader.
One of the most important qualities is strength. The physical and mental strength of a leader is pivotal. A leader must possess the ability to assess any situation and formulate an authoritative solution. A leader must also be able to pursue a knowledgeable

In Lord of the Flies, as leader, Ralph is able to create an orderly environment in which the stranded group of boys create a simple form of government, construct shelters, and improve their chances of being rescued by creating a signal fire. Following Ralph’s intelligent course of action the group of boys develop a sense of obedience to a set of rules that will benefit them as a whole. Ralph's reasoning is based upon a democratic and orderly society, origionally Ralph concluded that they needed an executive to miantain order and stated "Seems we ought to have a cheif to decide things”.(Golding pg. 20) Another necessary quality in a leader is favorability. Although authority and intelligence are very important, having public approval is crucial. It is much easier to lead when you are considered trustworthy and reliable. Favorability is also a result of adhering to the will of the people. In Lord of the Flies the group of boys under Ralph’s leadership felt it was necessary to follow the rules or maintain a signal fire, which was in contrast to Ralph’s personal opinion. Jack however
