Nobody would want to be trapped on a deserted island with people that they do not know. Would you want to have a leader, a society? Ralph, Simon, Piggy, Jack, and many more were trapped on an island. Just the boys, there were no adults with them. Nobody knew where they were. Ralph, the leader of the group, thought it would a good idea to try and build a society, to try to survive until rescued. Ralph and Jack were the two main leaders of the boys, the boys, listened to Jack and Ralph. Though they attempted to build a society, it did not last very long. The boys wanted to do their own thing, arguments broke out, trust was lost, deaths of boys and the pigs, yet so much more happened when they were on the island.

The boys have lost trust in each other, in result of this, two boys were killed and many pigs were killed. For example, in chapter nineteen, page 184, “Cry of the Hunters”, Golding says, “The breaking of the conch and the deaths of Piggy and Simon lay over the island like a vapor.” This means that these lives were lost because the boy had lost trust in each other and killed boys that did not have to die. The next example of this is the boys are constantly killing pigs. “Ralph’s right of course. There isn’t snake thing, but if there was a snake, we’d hunt it and kill it. We’re going to hunt pigs to get meat for everybody, and we’ll look for the snake too---” (Golding 36). This shows that the boys have got it into their minds that they need to constantly be hunting in order to survive. The last example of this is the boys turned on Simon and killed him. “As Simon thought this, he turned to the poor broken thing that sat stinking by his side. The beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible. He started down the mountain and his legs gave beneath him. Even with great care the best he could do was a stagger” (Golding 147). This shows the lost trust between the boys. They were all mad and turned on Simon, leading him to his …show more content…
For example, Argument started again. Ralph held out the glimmering conch and Maurice took it obediently. The meeting subsided” (Golding 88). This shows that the boys have completely lost their society because they are arguing over the smallest things. Next, in chapter 19, “Cry of the Hunters” on page 194, Golding says, “Someone was moaning outside and a babble of voices rose. A fierce argument was going on and the wounded savage kept groaning. Then when there was silence, a single voice spoke and Ralph decided that it was not Jack’s. “See? I told you—he’s dangerous.” The wounded savage moaned again.” This shows that the boys have hardly any trust for each other and they always get into arguments over something small. The last example is, “In a moment the platform was full of arguing, gesticulating shadows. To Ralph, seated, this seemed the breaking up of sanity. Fear, beasts, no general agreement that the fire was all-important: and when one tried to get the thing straight the argument sheered off, bringing up fresh, unpleasant matter” (Golding 88). This shows that boys spend more time arguing than fighting for

Ralph has been the primary representation of the civilization and order within the novel and with this, he was able to repress the savagery temptations, but soon enough, he begins to succumb to this nature. This was first seen when he wounded the pig and shouted, “I hit him all right. The spear stuck in. I wounded him” (Golding 113)! Although he was able to repress them for a while, he is no different from the other boys on the island since they are still all adolescents and are not immune to the evil that resides within them.…

For the entire book, Piggy has been ignored and not treated that well. Nobody cared about him or his ideas, but when he is dead, Ralph notices and realizes how important he was. Piggy's symbolism has become quite clear over the course of the book; he represents civilization. Golding, I believe, was trying to show how people take civilization for granted and that no one really appreciates until it's gone. Now with Piggy gone, the entire island is chaos.…

Piggy and Ralph are discussing what is going to happen when they meet up with the savage boys. For example, they know the “liberation into savagery the concealing paint [brings], but they won’t be painted ... because [they] aren’t savages” (Golding 157). The face paint has become a distinguishing factor between the good and bad forces of the island. The paint is taking away the humanity of the boys and forcing them to appear as nothing more than wild animals. Piggy and Ralph want the other boys to know that they are still human and that they should not be treated as just another animal to hunt.…
