The death of Simon was abrupt but, the death of Piggy was always on Rogers mind. The reason for Simon's death was that when he came out of the forest the Littluns thought he was “The Beast”. When Piggy died he was holding the conch and it had exploded into a million pieces. “The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from the chin to the knee: the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist.”(Golding 181) The conch was the thing they used in meetings to show who was talking. If you wanted to talk you would have to be holding the conch and no one else could talk while someone else had the shell. The actual meaning of the conch shell was to symbolize Law and Order. Piggy and Ralph were the ones who had found the shell. Piggy had to ask Ralph to blow it since Piggy couldn't because of his Asthma. The importance of Simon’s death was the ending of any vestiges of civilization on the island. The death of Simon made Ralph and his people depressed and consider joining Jack and the savages. They all joined the ritual death around the fire after the death. The death of Simon symbolized the chaos and anarchy that has taken over on the island and the boys. The voice was the Lord of the Flies. It had told him that the beast was actually the Pilot and that the beast wasn’t real. He also had told him that if he went and told anyone that he talked to him Simon would die. Simon had gone back to tell the boys and when he came out of the forest the littluns thought he was the beast so they attacked him. “The sticks fell and the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed” (Golding 152)They started clawing him and tearing his skin with their teeth. He had been pushed off the cliff and the littluns fell on top of him and violently killed him. They never realized that it was Simon. There was a storm that night and it had washed Simons body into the ocean. The pilot's body had also washed down from the forest onto the island and scared all the kids. Ralph and his group had gone to the cave where Jack and Roger savages were to get back Piggy's specs. When they got there they had people blocking the way to get in. Ralph had to explain why they were there and then they had captured Ralph and Samneric. Piggy had got in and he had the conch shell in his hand and he was telling everyone how immature they were being. He was saying they need to be one group again and need hunters. Then Roger had this big rock by him and had let it go towards Piggy. It had hit piggy in the chest and knocked him down a 40 foot cliff into the water. When he
