The conflict between Jack and Ralph reflects on this claim for the novel Lord of the Flies. The conflict between the boys start at the beginning of Chapter 1, but remains faint as the other boys feel as they should work together to create a community. In Chapter 1, as Ralph and Jack argue they try to give their point of view without seeing it from an another perspective; Ralph advises that they should build huts, while Jack stubbornly counters his idea and favors hunting. Ralph, who thinks about the overall good of the group, considers hunting pointless. Jack, attracted to the ecstasy of hunting by his bloodlust and desire for power, does not care about building huts or what Ralph has to say. At this point in the novel, the group of boys has lived on the island for some time, and their society increasingly resembles a political state. By this chapter, the boys’ community mirrors a political society, with the faceless and frightened littluns resembling the masses of common people and the various older boys filling positions of power and importance with regard to these underlings.
