15 Chapter 1
“Within the diamond haze of the beach something dark was fumbling along...Then the creature stepped from the mirage on to clear sand, and they saw that the darkness was not all shadow but mostly clothing.” Basic Question
This is a basic question because at this point in the book I thought to myself “what or who is author referring too?” and “why is he using words like darkness and shadow?”. 158 Chapter 8
“There isn’t anyone to help you. Only me. And I’m the Beast. . .. Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! . . . You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close! I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are the way they are?” Interpretation

"I'm frightened. Of us." Key Details
This text is telling us how scared Ralph is after Simon is killed. This is the part in the book where Ralph realized that even if the beast is real there still is something inside us like what Simon said, which Ralph is now fearing even more than any sort of beastie. Piggy tries to tell him it was an accident, but Ralph sees how Jack and the others are all starting to act. This makes Ralph fear that the other kids will continue to act out of order like they are at war and do more unethical things on
