In the book lord of the flies by William Golding, the main antagonist is Jack Merridew. He acts as the book's villain with a strong desire to be the boy's leader and the focus of the tribe's attention. From the moment the unique band of boys voted Ralph as chief, he has been holding a grudge against Ralph since that moment and now he seeks Ralphs demise in more catastrophic ways than one weather to discredit him or to just get him out of the picture entirely with his death. This grudge becomes the main reason he challenges Ralph for chief and also why he wants to hunt the beast along with the children who disapprove of the way he takes charge of his hunters. He uses all of this just to prove that he is the bravest and strongest of them all
