Lord Of The Flies Island Survival Analysis

Lord of the Flies In Lord of the Flies by William Golding he uses the concept of island survival to show the various negative behaviors of man. The story starts with Ralph as the leader and by the end of the story the island is on fire and Ralph is being hunted by Jack and his lackeys. The cause of this ever growing chaos was the beast, a made up monster that terrorized the dreams of the little ones and caused uncertainty to blossom in the hearts of those who were older. Golding uses the beast and its ever growing influence over the boys to show the power of rumors, the delicate frame of leadership, and the effects of fear to reinforce his main theme of how fragile the human concept of stability can be in a society. The rumor of the beast spreads like wildfire throughout the tribe, and by only chapter two the boys were already whispering and speculating about the beast. Golding used this to show how the power of rumors in a society will affect each and every person who hears it, even if they don't believe it. The rumor starts when the small boy with the mulberry-coloured birthmark asks what the boys plan to do about the snake-thing. Before chapter nine after Simon and his talk with the lord of the flies, he climbs the mountain and discovers the truth about the beast. Dehydrated and likely scared beyond belief, he stumbles to find the others. Unfortunately, the others take him for the beast and end his life. The boys before this were engaging in a strange dance while chanting (INSERT CHANT). They were only dancing in the first place out of fear of the beast and the lightning, and it's is the wild and terrifying fear in the storm that pushes them to attack the first thing that enters the circle, which is unfortunately
