What would happen if a group of boys were stranded in an uninhabited island? Well the book ¨lord of the flies¨ written by William Golding illustrates the cencerio pretty well. This book is filled with symbols and other themes. But the three greater symbols in the book are The lord of the flies, fire, The Beast, and fire. This were some of the greater symbols in the book ¨lord of the flies¨. The book is filled with themes and a great deal of insight into human nature, psychology, and society.

This symbol is as important as the previous two in many different ways.This symbol is important because fire was the cause they were rescued, also it was a symbol of savagery, But most important it was their link to their past lives. Fire was the biggest factor in their rescue because the fire that burned the entire island created enough smoke that the naval officer ship noticed the smoke. This is ironic because the boys left Ralph tribe because they didn't want to keep the fire going. But in the end it saved them. The book states ¨ we saw your smoke¨ (Golding 183). This quote show that the fire was a reasonable thing to keep up because it saved them. Furthermore Fire is also a symbol of savagery and death. Fire is only involved in one death but it still there.The biggest example of this is when jack burns the entire island to smoke out Ralph. This is extreme violence because Jack let the entire island burn even though all their food and water source would be destroyed. The book states ¨They had smoked him out and set the island on fire¨(Golding 179). Another example of violence due to fire is Jack's raiding. Jack sends his tribemates to raid the other tribe to steal fire from them. This has happend at least two times. The book states ¨We´ll raid them and take fire¨ (Golding 124). This show´s Jack will do anything to get fire. A greater example of this is when They steal piggy's glass to make fire. The book states ¨I want my glasses. … and they came stealing¨ ( Golding 155). This show that Jack´s need for fire made him use violence to obtain it. One of the bigger roles fire has is that it connected them to their past life. The fire reminds them about their past life because they want to be rescued and that was the only way to get rescued.
