In the novel, Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, the author shows that there are many ways of incorporating themes into the novel. Overall, Golding uses three character to reveal multiple themes. Roger, Ralph, and Jack are English schoolboys who are also the survivors. Each of them demonstrated a theme in which had caused chaos on the island. The first theme of the novel is portrayed through Roger. He characterized the topic fear and absence of restriction that can lead men to his destruction. While Jack and Ralph are busy with fighting at Castle Rock, Roger gets the opportunity to finally hurt someone. He exhibited the theme that unchecked behavior has the potential to lead man astray. The unchecked behavior starts when Jack calls Piggy names. His manner, then, escalates to the part that he starts to hurt people. Golding writes “...able at last to hit someone. Stuck his fist into Piggy’s stomach” (Golding 71). Jack punches Piggy in the stomach, smacks Piggy’s head, and break Piggy’s specs. Piggy criticizes Jack for letting the fire go out. Just because of Piggy’s criticism, Jack imposed cruel actions on Piggy. At this point Jack’s behavior is just out of control and very dangerous. Jack’s unchecked behavior has gone deeper and ends up with killing Simon. Jack made this mistake because he thought Simon for a beast. When Jack kills Simon no one had accused Jack of murder because everyone thought it was the right things to do. Since the boys were just protecting themselves from the beast. In result, Simon dies in a terrible way without explaining to the boys that the beastie was just a parachutist. Simon is killed because the boys had turned into savages.
