What makes this story canonized is how the story is an allegory, the land represents the world. Ralphs cong parliament is representing government and jack's tribe is representing the opposing government. Also piggy represents the rational faculty that people have. It makes him selfish and vulnerable. Simon represent the emotional and quiet version of people. The way you interpret this is up to you but I think the story represents the war that’s going on during the time! At first it’s just a bunch of kids and in the end they became killers and savages! The most effective moment in the story is when simon dies, you just killed one of your friend’s!

Ralph also got attacked by hunters. I feel the way that they are canonizing this is how it’s amazing how a group of friends end up on an island stranded and now they split into two groups. Now they are hurting each other and even a kid yes a child died like it is getting way to crazy now. They even stole piggy’s glasses!
The next day the two tribes meet and jack and ralph start fighting! Jack gets his hunters to kidnap sam and eric. Then jack and ralph fight again and it gets crazy. A big rock falls and it hits piggy and then the conch breaks!!! Also piggy dies! All this war is getting people killed. After all this craziness ralph just sits there hiding and thinking about of all the crazy things that's happened on this island. So he gets a weapon and goes to fight jack. Ralph faints on the beach and then he see’s an officer.
