In all great literature there is a common theme near the end of the book. The authors seem to answer the main question that has been lurking with the reader the whole book. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding used the same type of ending when explaining that the naval officer found the boys on the island, but he leaves many questions unanswered such as; Did the boys find their parents? How did their lives change when they went back home? When I first finished the book I didn't expect it to be over like that.…

The characters in the Lord of the Flies never thought of that and in the end turned into savages because of it. The author of this book is William Golding. The main characters in this story were Piggy a boy with glasses and is an orphan and the other boys on the island do not like him much, also their is Ralph who is 12 years old and is one of the leaders and he is optimistic that they will be saved because his father is in the British navy, also there is Jack who is the rival to Ralph and is in the choir and the leader of the hunters, finally there is Simon who is quiet and does not do much around the island. What happens in the book is the boys are being evacuated from Britain due to World War II going on and their plane gets shot down and lands on an island that no humans have ever inhabited, all the adults on board died and only the boys survived.…

In William Golding’s novel The Lord of the Flies the characters symbolize distinctive human traits to allow the reader to foreshadow conflict. The author combined these two literary elements to allow the reader to find deeper connections to the novel. This is shown in the main characters Ralph, Jack, and Piggy who are young boys deserted on an inhabited island away from any adults or means of civilization. Ralph and Jack oppose one another in conflict throughout the story line, and it is somewhat ironic that their symbols also are opposite to each other.…

What is the thing that is holding us back from becoming savages, is it possibly just civilization and maturity? The “Lord of the Flies” is a great book about a group of schoolboys who struggle on an island to survive and deal with their situation, quickly resulting to foolish violence and savagery. First, I will give some of my interpretations and thoughts of the symbolism in the book, examples are how the fire, piggy, conch and so on affect the meaning behind the story.
