In the book Jack is the leader of the choirboys who become the group’s hunters, and is the boy that represents chaos. A different person that serves as chaos is Roger, who is a part of the hunters on the island. They show order and civilization many times throughout the novel. First, on pages 20-23 Ralph organizes an assembly with all the other boys on the island, he makes rules like the ones they had back in England, and he is voted to be chief of the tribe. This shows that he is trying to create an orderly civilization until they can get rescued. One example of Piggy portraying order is on pages 21 and 25 when he takes names of all the boys in the group. When he does this he is theoretically making a census to see how many boys there are and to know their names just like what they would in England. Finally, an example of Ralph and Piggy being orderly is on page 50 while they are building the huts. Even though all the other boys are not helping instead they play around, Piggy and Ralph continue to build the shelters because they know that they need the shelters to survive so that they can go back home. while the other boys become chaotic and do not help, they remain civilized children and build the only type of house they
