The struggle for power, authority, and dominance is one that will most certainly never cease within mankind as it has always been a part of human nature ever since the earliest of civilizations. There may be many consequences that arise due to the actions of those that yield such power; however, it truly is a double edged sword. It is indeed true, “With great power comes great responsibility” but HOW one uses that power should be the primary interest as it can have different effects.
Should it be concluded that power should be delegated to a single individual? More importantly, is it more effective? Does absolute power corrupt absolutely? These questions are surely subjective as well as ambiguous. It indeed depends on who is in control and

In fact, in Lord of the Flies, there is also more than one “chief”. They all have multiple head authorities and they all share a common goal. First, is the use of power. In all scenarios, power is used differently by whoever is in charge depending on their circumstances as well as their restrictions. Second is the intention of whoever was in charge. Jack from Lord of the Flies wanted to survive no matter the cost; loss of innocence, lives, whatever it may have been. He also had no restrictions and more importantly, he did not care how anyone else viewed him and only looked towards forwarding his own interests as mentioned by his quote to Ralph, “And you shut up! Who are you, anyway? Sitting there telling people what to do. You can 't hunt, you can 't sing— Why should choosing make any difference? Just giving orders that don 't make any sense—”. This is where Jack’s autocratic ideals come to fruition. In the Incident Command System, many people are working together but the difference is, they work to help others; not themselves. They have as many resources as needed and have many different authority figures to assist. In the U.S. government’s case, the prime objective is to ultimately help others but Congress not taking responsibility in times of extreme turmoil. While this doesn’t necessarily mean corruption, it shakes trust within the whole country. It can be argued that the reason that power became corrupted in Lord of the Flies was because of their dire situation and their age. Nonetheless, it can ultimately be pinpointed to the leader’s personality. Personality is mentality; and mentality is morality. It can be one person’s actions that corrupts an entire group; the subjects are not to blame, the dictator is. Ms. Fema Bernido of De Anza High School shared a very true quote that her mother said that related to this. Ms.
