-Goldings weave of religious imagery and symbolism in the Lord Of The Flies is heavily imbedded using simon as a religious figure to kinda represent God. I do believe there is redemption with simon being the simon being the savior figure, and that is when he is killed or when there saved from the island or when the conch was smashed. Doing a little research on the garden of Eden I found that the translation is “related to an Aramaic root word meaning "fruitful, well-watered. " This textual evidence does help compare the two islands that is that the boys do find fruit on the island, and not just fruit but food in general and also that the island is well watered because there is water surrounding it and that the use of trees in the book are well…

All of a sudden he felt his body getting warmer.…

“Simple peck-order bullying is only the beginning of the kind of hierarchical behavior that can lead to racism, sexism, ethnocentrism, classism, and all the other 'isms' that cause so much suffering in the world.” Octavia E. Butler. Everyone needs their “place” in society: leader, hunter, builder, or even follower and securing a place in society can often lead to conflict. The need for hierarchy is evident all throughout Lord of the Flies, a novel by William Golding about a group of British boys stranded alone on an island. The boys are able to form “social classes” by the end of chapter one by establishing dominance over one another, even if they had to do it through simple peck-order bullying.…

Marie Bogan P. 2 Due- 11/20/15 Lord of The Flies- Power From the beginning of Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, dominance and power was enforced, likely unconsciously. Supremacy seeking tendencies in human behavior determines the social ranks and interactions. The social hierarchy, littleuns’ power strive, and the fall out of the group’s order are all the outcome of dominance and power over a individual social group with no outside contact. Dominance is instituted between parties through force and aggression, submission, and behaviors in between. This (in human social groups, usually unintentionally,) is to establish priority ranking.…

In relation to human behavior, William Golding suggests that people follow what the majority of others around them are doing. On page ninety-one of Lord of the Flies, continuing onto page ninety-two (chapter five, Beasts From Water), there is a quote that relates to this idea ,“He gave a wild whoop and leapt down to the pale sand. At once, the platform was full of noise and excitement, scramblings, screams and laughter. The assembly shredded away and become a discursive and random scatter from the palms to the water and away among the beach, beyond night-sight”. This quote was at the point of the chapter where the boys (expect Ralph, Simon and Piggy) follow Jack because they think that it is the popular thing to do.…

William Golding, having served in World War II, knew about the egregious disasters that could arise from brainwashing, detrimental influences. So, in order to ensure history would not repeat itself, Golding emphasized the slippery-slope nature of sinister influences on society in his novel, Lord of the Flies, namely through character development. Initially in the plot, the boys willingly agree to “have rules and obey them” (Golding, 42) claiming that they have “got to do the right things” (42). However, the boys, ultimately, end up clashing between, and changing their opinions on the values they advocate for in the beginning, like peace, and the opposites of those values, such as savagery. It all starts with the “beastie” (35).…
