Firstly, Jack forges the idea of the beast and at the same time implements enough evidence of its presences so that the boys can follow him. “‘ Quiet!’ shouted Jack.’You, listen. The beast is sitting up there, whatever it is--’[...] ’Hunting,’ said Jack” (Golding 126). Although, the kids are already scared enough and Jack terrorizes their thoughts even more and concedes for the beastie’s existence. Brian Joseph Professor Harmon English 9-2 23 November 2017 Bad Happens to the Well-Intentioned Lord of The Flies embodies many themes, but none is so special as the one that related to me the most. In the 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies, author William Golding uses symbolism, dialogue, irony, and foreshadowing to illuminate the gloomy truth that people who have good intentions and follow what they believe to be right, especially when unpopular, will be misunderstood, misjudged, and sadly, punished. Ralph, Piggy, and Simon fall under the category of “well-intentioned people.”…

This novel takes place on a tropical island where a plane filled with English school boys crashes. Although the time of the crash and reasoning isn’t elaborated on, I theorized that because the book was written shortly after world war two had ended the book probably takes place sometime during the war. Considering that and the plane being ablaze as it crashed into the water, I believe it may have been being mistaken as an enemy aircraft and gunned down. The author begins the novel by describing the plane crash and distinguishing the main characters, but quickly establishes the idea of a social pyramid; the able-bodied boys like Ralph and Jack on top, and the less robust boys like Piggy at the bottom. The survivors of the crash swiftly elected…

The stage for William Golding’s Lord of The Flies is a lush tropical jungle like island, the perfect control room to test the theories of Locke and Hobbes on how people will react without apparent central leadership. The weather is extremely livable, and in great condition for wildlife and vegetation growth, basically paradise. The health and condition of the islanders was perfect, even though the boys on the island went through a plane crash which strangely left no trace of wreckage at all. While walking through the Island’s terrain, Piggy discovers the conch in a pool of water, he promptly gives it to Ralph telling him to blow on it. This action calls the scattered boys to the platform, just as Locke and Hobbes would’ve predicted.…
