First off, Vivien started working as a janitor at the Vanderbilt University lab, but once Dr. Blalock saw that Vivien had a high interest in medicine, he took him under his wing and had him become his assistant. Eventually, the two had moved on to work at John Hopkins University. Vivien was very talented in what he did. I enjoy working out and aspiring others to do the same. Just like Vivien, I felt as if I was looked at differently; also considering that I was one of two females working at the gym. I felt as if the guys working there did not take me seriously because I was a girl. But, later on in the summer, I had gained the respect of my co-workers because they saw that I was passionate about working out, eating healthy, and helping others to get in shape. I had learned to just keep my head up and focus on what was important, just like Vivien did. He later gained the respect of others around him and eventually became a professional surgeon and was rewarded with a portrait of himself hanging in the halls of John Hopkins
