There is consistent evidence regarding the effectiveness of Lorazepam and Diazepam as the first line of treatment for convulsive status epilepticus. Many studies3,4,5 conclude that Lorazepam and Diazepam are the most efficient but have different uses and pharmacology. Lorazepam is preferred in adults for Iv therapy in contrast to diazepam which is preferred for rectal administration. For many of the study designs, Lorazepam showed the highest results in comparison to other benzodiazepines. The numbers were not as high to conclude that Lorazepam is more efficient than diazepam but it does show that it can treat epilepsy.
