The core news that have described the American media since its beginning, suffered tremendous changes with the rise of technology and contributed to a negative outcome by hurting the “essential food supply,” (p. 3) for the American democracy. The technology innovation brought with itself competition and an unending desire for more profit in the newspaper world, thus, fact-based reporting changed its role from a watchdog over government, into an amusing clown to the public. The book, “Loosing the news” by Alex S. Jones, explained this sad scenario that American newspapers went through and the negative impact it brought to the American democracy and the public in general. “Citizen journalism,” (p. 190) represents one of the new media inventions. These so called journalists rose out of the power of the Web and somehow have directly contributed to an erasion of media core content and its benefits to the public. The book author shared a critical perspective towards citizen journalists disagreeing that they could become “an answer to the problem of shrinking iron core,” (p. 191). He explained his position suggesting that such an arrangement leads to unreliability in the long term and presents biased perspectives. As a consequence, rigorous journalistic ethics is at stake as new news media move rapidly toward the “more elastic standards of tabloid journalism and nonobjective news coverage,” (p. 103).
