Looks can be Deceiving
Money can never buy happiness. As Franklin D.Roosevelt once said,”happiness is not in the mere possession of money;it lies in the joy of achievement ,in the thrill of creative effort.”People pretend to be someone that theyre not to impress and look superior to others.Being wealthy doesnt mean anything if you are not happy.Edwin Arlington Robinson is the author of “Richard Cory.”This ironic peom is about a weathy man that had it all but deep inside,he wasnt happy.Being wealthy doesnt make an individual happy.
To repeat, wealth doesn't mean everything. The townspeople were not supportive of each other. They admired Richard Cory so much that they didn't even realize that he wants their friendship.Robinson claims,”in fine,we thought that was everything/to make us wish that we were in his place.”(3.11-12.534) However, the townspeople didn't not allow him to associate with them because his wealth made him superior to them.Little that they knew,he was very lonely and depressed.
