‘Looking for Alibrandi’ Oral Presentation
Good morning ladies and gentleman, today I would like to talk about the relationships between parents and children. There’s no doubt that our parents can have a significant impact during different periods of time in our lives. From the first word we spoke to the very first step we took, our parents have taught, helped and influenced us in different kinds of way. Many people think that the bond between parents and children weakens as the children grow older and move into teenage years as adolescence is a period when children go through series of physical as well as emotional changes. The biggest problem between Christina and Katia in the film begins when Christina falls pregnant with Josie. In this significant period, Katia and her husband not only refuse to help but reject Christina. Unfortunately, the conflicts between them extend toward Josie when she begins to rebel. She rebels because Katia thinks the Alibrandi is a family of the curse which directly leads to Josie’s rebellion. It is Josie’s purpose to break the curse, she begins to date people who would not be accepted and approved by Katia and Italian community. Although later Josie learns about Katia’s secret and forgives her, Katia generally does a negative influence on Josie in her teenage …show more content…
There is no doubt that nobody wants to have a bad impact on his or her beloved ones, so how to develop a healthy relationship becomes the question.
The first yet the most important part is to respect each other. In the film, Katia ignores Josie’s will, only wants Josie to obey her ways of seeing things. This attitude is not acceptable.
Being able to understand each other’s feeling is also important. For instance, during adolescence, it is normal for teens to feel confused and unstable, therefore instead of being mad at them, parents should be more patient and easy-going when helping them. If everyone could empathise from other people’s perspective, it would be much easier to develop a healthy relationship
Developing a healthy relationship between parents and children is a complicated thing as it could not be done by only following few tips. Everyone is different; those tips are only instructions as to do it you have to find your own way. However, do not forget parents are the most important people in our life, their influence on children can affect us for the entire life in different ways.
