The characters use a lot of vulgar language throughout, and there is some sexual content that may make some readers uncomfortable. The sexual content involved does contain some intense details, but it is rare. Also, characters often drink enough to become highly intoxicated, and characters smoke cigarettes during most parts of the story. Personally, I thought this made the book more interesting because it made the story more relatable for the targeted audience (this content may not be relatable for some readers, but this book is meant for an older, more mature audience). But, for some readers, these topics may be viewed as a weakness. I also believe that Looking For Alaska is on the banned book list because parents do not want their children reading stories that contain such topics because they may negatively influence the reader if they are not mature enough to handle the things discussed in this
