Intro: Suffering is an important theme because it ties all of the other themes and ideas together and answers the main question presented to Miles in the novel. Throughout the story, Miles, Alaska and their friends were all struggling with their own challenges and their question was how to stop the suffering, how to get out of this life of pain, and what is the meaning of life if it produces pain.
Point: The death of a loved one often leaves us with unanswered questions, and part of the suffering that comes with death is the fact that these questions will never be answered.
