I have read the realistic fiction book, Looking for Alaska by John Green. The book starts with a boy named Miles “Pudge” Halter, who has a difficult time with finding good friends, enjoys biographies, and is fascinated by last words. Miles goes to attend a boarding school that his father went to and he wants to go because he seeks “a great perhaps.” He soon meets his roommate Chip “The Colonel” Martin who has a remarkable memory and his friend Alaska Young. Miles later goes through the school year with The Colonel and Alaska as his best friends and they go through some amazing experiences with each other and are good friends until something tragic happens and nothing will ever be the same.
The authors voice stands out to me in this story because

In Lisa Parks and James Schwoch “Introduction” to Down to Earth, it shows the impact of global imagery. Space exploration began to increase more and more, and satellites were thought of to create world peace and stability, but also increased military power. In book “A Long Walk to Water” by Linda Sue Park a character named Salva describes, “The soldiers fired their guns into the air and chased the people away from the camp… They are driving us back to Sudan,”(Park 75). This showed a community not accepting someone. In Ethiopia, they were driving out foreign refugees, rejecting them, just like the community did right when Ha, a character in the book “Inside Out and Back Again” by Thanhha Lai, showed up, but in a more forceful way. This relates to Ha and her struggles she had as a refugee fitting into a host country's society.…

MIST is a great strategy to analyze a poem, because with it, you will be scrutinizing the poem with the mood, imagery, structure, and tension of it. One of the most important parts of MIST in my opinion would be the mood. When one starts reading a poem, right away, we can tell whether it will be a poem on the joyful side or on the melancholy side. With that the reader will already be able to tell what type of poem it will be, and help it understand everything else, most importantly contributing to the meaning of the work as a whole.…

Small Groups, Big Impact Have you ever felt like the odds were against you? Like there were no hopes in fixing a global issue because you were only one person? From the essay “How to Melt the Arctic,” written by John Bocknek, he says, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” The author enforces that no matter the problem, a person or a group of people can change a global issue. In today’s society, people underestimate the impact that they have if they work by themselves or even in an organization.…
