The author writes about building all different kinds of things that he isn’t even going to use. Another example of connotation of this song is repetition Tomlinson repeats “It’s a long way down” a lot in this poem. Repetition is used to really express how hard it is to get over a relationship not working out. Sadness because it’s about a relationship ending, and not working out. It’s constantly pointing out that it is hard to get over heartbreak, stating things like “I try to forgive you, but I struggle ‘cause I don’t know how”. This also showcases the person's loss of trust in their partner. The following line “ I try to forgive you’ which means that he isn’t confident that the person won’t hurt him again.
Shift
This song does not seem to have a shift in it. Throughout the entire song sadness and regret is conveyed. The first and third stanza follow the same mood, and are written the same way. The second and fourth stanza are identical as they are the refrain of the song, so there mood is the same. Failure and regret is the attitude that is showcased in this song.
Title (Again ) After reading the poem the title “Long Way Down” symbolizes getting over a breakup. Tomlinson writes about the struggle of trying to forget and forgive a loved one when they do something wrong. It’s about how joyful and up in the clouds he is about his relationship and now that it's over he has to get off of that cloud so to speak. It’s hard for him to move on because he is so in love with his partner. “Long Way Down” is meant represent the road to getting over a
