Long-term effects of tobacco use can be linked to a lot of diseases such as: cardiovascular disease, lung and other types of cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other respiratory damage. Tobacco uses is responsible for other health, cosmetic and economic concerns such as ulcers, erectile dysfunction, reproduction health issues, dental disease, loss of physical senses, injuries and cost to the economy. Both smokers and non-smokers cause an increase in health care expenditure due to treatment they receive. There is loss of work time at the work place due to time spent by smokers. The cost of removing litters by smokers is also a major cost and also cost associated with fires which are causes by careless deposing of cigarettes. The growing of tobacco causes widespread environmental harm from deforestation as well as pesticide and fertilizer contamination. Tobacco is everyone’s concern as it affects both smokers and non-smokers, and each year record number of non-smokers die due to what is known as secondhand smoking. Due to rising concern from people dying from tobacco use the society is now force to take on expense from this product. Cost of tobacco use to society has exceeded the tax revenue for the states and cost over $99 billion dollars. With this expense the government has to now mandate lows to lower the use of tobacco. This hopefully will aim as saving lives and cut back on expense.
