What is immigration? Immigration is when people move from one country to another. Some reasons being for safety, for a chance at a better life, or for education. . S., and illegal immigrants, who do not become legal citizens of the U.S. and work and live here illegally. What is the United States doing to control or stop immigration? The U.S. has what we call Border Control, which is the measures taken by a country to monitor or regulate its borders. Border Control’s job is to make sure that nothing gets brought into the country illegally, whether it is drugs, weapons, or people, and making sure that others can exit and enter the country safely. They do not look at the long term effects because then they will realize that if immigrants have kids who are born in the U.S. than they are American citizens who pay taxes like everyone else, even if their parents are illegal. The long term effect of immigration is that the kids of immigrants will end up paying more in taxes than their parents cost the government by coming here. Immigrants also use less healthcare than native-born Americans because when they move here they are usually younger and healthier so they can get better job opportunities. Many immigrants also come to the United States for education purposes, and work very hard to achieve more than was available to them in their home country, often becoming entrepreneurs, which creates jobs and boosts the
