Berry, M.D. (2011), “Domestic violence is associated with a range of physical and mental health effects. Being a victim of domestic violence is linked to increased risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and suicide.6 Exposure to traumatic events can lead to stress, fear and isolation, which may lead to depression and suicidal thoughts or behavior.” This quote shows that domestic violence has such a great impact that it can cause many problems and sometimes death. This can result in irrational, violent or controlling behavior within a relationship.” What this quote is expressing is that substance abuse plays a big role in why many relationships can later become very abusive and dangerous. With all of the problems that were previously stated, the government has come up with ways to advocate for victims. With the rise in domestic abuse rates, the government has issued laws to make sure victims get the help they need to recover. Domestic violence prevention can lead to more kindness, better work environments and healthy communities/relationships (Pace, 2023). According to Pace (2023), “Some common measures include subjecting the abuser to rehabilitation programs as well as sanctions like fines and community service, among others. If implemented well, these measures will be highly prolific for domestic violence prevention.” This quote expresses that the government has taken measures to make sure that victims get the justice and freedom they need in order to feel better
