Anybody could be affected by the damage of domestic abuse, and that is only one of the many problems. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone in a wide age range, coming from the age of 15 years old to 45 or older. Domestic abuse is physical and or sexual violence coming from one's partner. It does not matter what gender a person is, an abuser is an abuser. It also comes with long term negative effects that could really ruin a person mentally and physically. Domestic abuse can cause mental issues, disorders, and alcohol/drug abuse, which is why domestic abuse should be stopped. Being a victim of domestic violence is linked to increased risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and suicide.6 Exposure to traumatic events can lead to stress, fear and isolation, which may lead to depression and suicidal thoughts or behavior.” This quote shows that domestic violence has such a great impact that it can cause many problems and sometimes death. It is also stated that “About 75% of female survivors experience some form of injury related to domestic violence.4 In addition to injuries, common physical symptoms include headaches, insomnia, chronic pain, gastrointestinal symptoms, chest, back, and pelvic pain.” This quote shows many more health problems that could possibly come with domestic violence. Alongside many negative effects to a victim's health, it can turn into using substances such as alcohol and drugs. Domestic abuse can affect someone's mental health very drastically, which could lead to a victim using substances to cope, which later can have even worse effects. This can result in irrational, violent or controlling behavior within a relationship.” What this quote is expressing is that substance abuse plays a big role in why many relationships can later become very abusive and dangerous. With all of the problems that were previously stated, the government has come up with ways to advocate for victims. With the rise in domestic abuse rates, the government has issued laws to make sure victims get the help they need to recover. Domestic violence prevention can lead to more kindness, better work environments and healthy communities/relationships (Pace, 2023). According to Pace (2023), “Some common measures include subjecting the abuser to rehabilitation programs as well as sanctions like fines and community service, among others. If implemented well, these measures will be highly prolific for domestic violence prevention.” This quote expresses that the government has taken measures to make sure that victims get the justice and freedom they need in order to feel better
